Kicked my 10 year old son out, perhaps a little to harsh?

He ALWAYS neglects to put back on the twisty tie for the bread, and it's been going stale for a week! I told him, "Until you learn how to properly treat bread, gtfo." And he did, he left. My wife is currently crying, and I was telling her he deserved it, but she called me a "monster" and is giving me a headache. Do you think we should accept him back into our lives?
