Can I get arrested for pruning back overgrown sidewalks?

Hi I walk my son and dog almost everyday and I use the sidewalks because people don't watch me on the roads and I've almost been hit a few times. I grabbed my pruners this time because most of the sidewalks are so overgrown. I trim through tree branches and bushes that I can't go through. Yes part of me says it is wrong, but some lady went psycho on me. I don't know why because I feel I am doing people a favor anyways, not like I am pulling them out of the ground. She said she was calling the police. So I am sure I am probably going to get arrested. Any idea how much in trouble I am in?
